...as things have been pretty uneventful here lately. Creatinine kept creeping up in .1 increments and topped out at close to 2.2 the night before last, then came back down to I believe 1.9 today, which gives us (me, my fam, and med team) hope that my kidney function is finally turning around and has seen the last of the amphoterizan effects, as the liposomal form can take considerably longer to clear from the system than the even worse oldschool normal form. So that's encouraging, but until I see the numbers tomorrow stay the same or go down even more, I'm not letting myself get my hopes up.
Also, the team put me on a routine, 2x/day long-acting Oxycontin in an attempt to get my pain management onto something a little less crazy-intense than dilaudid as well as something oral (they're really trying to be ready to send me home when my kidneys come back!). However, something about the long-acting-ness of said drug made me horrifically sick to my stomach, like I hadn't been since before my surgery. So this morning they switched me to normal Oxycontin, just taken more often, and this morning it wasn't nearly as bad but as the day has gone on, it's not been too much better, so there's work to be done in that department as well. Finding a pain med that works without making me sick or drowsy, but also doesn't interact with other meds will be key to getting out of here in the first place, but also to post-lost-kidney-function life.
Advil has been my go-to drug for years, but I after talking to the kidney docs yesterday, they made it pretty clear that even though my kidneys can and should get some better, they'll likely not get back to baseline - which is fine, they assured me, people can live their entire lives with surprisingly low kidney function, but I will still need to protect what remains and part of that will be avoiding NSAIDs (Advil, Aleve, etc). Unfortunately, Tylenol tends to have the efficacy of a tic-tac for me, so I will need to find a safe, effective alternative for everyday normal pain that most people would take OTC drugs for once my kidneys bounce back and I get out of here. If any of you CFers or kidney folks have any suggestions of what has worked for you, I'd appreciate them!
Other than that, not much to report. Getting kind of pukey out of nowhere - and without Zyvox, so I'm left to assume it was the oxycontin - so I just got a dose of Compazine. This means I've got a good 15 minutes before an involuntary lights out. This means it's time to watch what I can of the game and call it a night I think I'll call it a night. Go Duke!
